There are between 300-350 student jobs across the many IT units/organizations on campus (collectively known as OneIT). Many positions provide an excellent learning opportunity for students who may be new to working within an IT setting. Most jobs will provide training for new staff around technical concepts, troubleshooting strategies, and customer service skills that they will need in the position.
Job postings can occur at any time! While some OneIT campus departments link directly to job applications on their websites, most utilize Handshake to post job openings.
IT Client Services Student Technician
UC Berkeley’s IT Client Services (ITCS) department provides direct technical support to UC Berkeley staff and faculty. In addition to learning IT support skills and concepts, student technicians experience a (paid) ~100-hour program of technical training and project leadership opportunities. No previous technical experience is necessary.
D-Lab Undergraduate Technician
UTechs at D-Lab serve as a first point of contact for the wider campus community for accessing D-Lab services which support data, data science, workshops, consulting, and research. You could be a great fit for a UTech job if you are service- and detail-oriented; interested in helping students; and like to be asked questions and look for answers.
Network Engineering Assistant
The Berkeley IT Network Services team is responsible for implementing and supporting data networking services for the UC Berkeley Campus. Network Engineering Assistants are responsible for implementing basic user service requests, network configuration to support those services, surveying network locations on campus and basic physical tasks required to implement service. This is a role which provides excellent experience in the area of IT Operations and includes a significant customer service component. Previous members of the Network Engineering Assistant team have gone on to successful careers at Lawrence Berkeley Labs and major tech companies. All necessary training to perform the work is provided, only a basic understanding of technology concepts and computer systems is necessary.
