Return Tech

STEP loans are due to be returned within four years of being checked out or within two weeks of your departure from the university. 

Please follow the instructions below for the appropriate type of return. Note that we strongly recommend returning your devices in person, if possible, before leaving Berkeley.

In-Person Return Instructions

If you are able to return your item(s) in person, follow the instructions listed below:

1. Fill out the return form for all items that must be returned (review the table below to see the return policy for each item).

2. Make an appointment to come in and return the devices at our office (address will be included in your email confirmation).

3. Come during your scheduled appointment time and a STEP representative will help you complete your return.

By Mail Return Instructions

If you are unable to return your item(s) in person, follow the instructions listed below:

1. Fill out the return form(link is external) for all items that must be returned (review the table below to see the return policy for each item).

2. We will email you a prepaid FedEx mailing label, and if requested, we will ship you a return box. 

3. Package the item(s) and take them to a FedEx location. You may show the FedEx employee the pre-paid mailing label on your phone and they will print out the label for you on their end.

4. Lastly, send us an email with the tracking number after you have dropped off the package so we know to be on the look out for it. 

Note that our program does not support international shipping. If it is not possible to return or have someone else return on your behalf before going abroad, please email us at ucbstep@berkeley.edu for further instructions.
