Soon-to-Graduate Students

What happens to my CalNet account after I graduate?

After you graduate, there is a grace period where you can still use your CalNet to login to campus services such as CalCentral. After the grace period, your CalNet will transition to an Alumni account with access to campus services available to alum. Learn more about Alumni CalNet accounts and policies.

*Note that an Alumni CalNet account is different from an Alumni Berkeley email, which has a seperate renewal process (see below).

What happens to my CalNet account if I don’t renew it?

If your CalNet account expires, you would need to find a staff member on campus to sponsor you if you wanted to reactivate it. Note: this is separate from maintaining your Berkeley email account, so when you graduate check your email regularly for instructions on how to maintain access to your Berkeley email.

How do I ensure I keep access to my bMail account after graduation?

Current students must wait until they complete their studies or graduate before renewing their @berkeley.edu Google account as an alum. You will be notified as your account enters its grace period. During your grace period, claim your alumni email account by following these steps

What should I do with the contents of my Google Drive?

Before you leave UC Berkeley, prevent content loss by transferring ownership of content you have shared with others on campus and by moving content you need to keep for yourself. See the Alumni Email Service page for instructions on how to transfer content ownership from yourself to campus and how to move content you need to keep for yourself.

When does my access to Box expire?

Box access expires at the end of the grace period (274 days after graduation).  Download or transfer materials you want to keep before then. Learn more about transferring file ownership in Box.

When does my access to campus software expire?

Access to campus software, including Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft 365, expires on the last day of the semester in which you are registered. If you check your account and find that you still have access past your graduation date, prepare for it to close without notice.

What if I use my bMail account to login to other subscriptions (e.g. Spotify, Figma)?

It is best practice to transfer all subscription softwares, applications, and services to a separate personal account. This will help you avoid getting locked out of your accounts in case you ever lose access to your bMail account.
